I purchased this book shortly after my husband passed away and used it daily for my devotions. I can't tell you how many times the daily messages seemed to address my circumstances each day. The author gives the reader so much comfort and encouragement to trust Godduring the hard times, believing that He is with you. I purchased a copy for a friend who was going through a hard time and she loved it too. No matter what you're going through this book is one you'll keep and read often. I read through it twice and still pick it up when I'm facing a hard day.Great book!

I love the design of the book and so darn cute! Also a good size to possibly fit in an average purse. I'm giving it as a gift after reading great reviews. I want to say thank you for those who took the time to share your reviews on this book. It arrived so quickly! But I couldn't resist to take a peak and read a few pages. I did that and I found myself in tears. Even just reading a few pages it drew an instant connection and reminded me how great God is even at our darkest seasons. Like I said I'm gonna have to order one for myself lol. And order extra copies for the next person leading me to give. Great devotional. Really helps give you hope and strength for those hard days when you feel all hope and strength are gone. Holly has a way with words that touches the heart deeply. Reading her blog or books is like sitting with a great, wise, caring friend who gives great advice. I highly recommend this for anyone going through a rough time. I picked up this book after troubling health problems and a hospital stay. It was a dark time in my life and while not much could get me out of the funk I was in, this book managed to get me through some very scary and stressful times.

This is a wonderful book to give to friends that are going through hard times - add a teacup and tea...perfect gift! The book is full of wisdom and insight and will encourage a person to not give up - keep moving forward - God is with you.

I am thankful for the effort put into this book. I appreciate the honesty of the author in researching and writing about a subject that has resulted in conclusions that on the surface seem to put her very identity in question. This book has helped me understand so much about my life. Much of what was written here has confirmed experiences I have had dealing with so called 'white' people and the experiences I have had as a 'black' person. I don't hold animosity toward 'white' people, in fact, my wife of almost twenty years is 'white'. I have always wondered why relations are the way they are between 'black' and 'white' people. It helps my understanding to view this from the social economic perspective as given in this work. Given the history before the race construct was given primacy, the labor class as a group did not possess a race based view; both 'black' and 'white' labors experienced life the same way and lived, worked, and played together with little so called racial animus. So it helps a lot to understand the intent of those who created the racial construct which is foundational to American culture. I look forward to learning more about this topic.

This is an excellent and necessary book. It underlines the importance of recognizing that race was created to guarantee money (and thus power) would fall into the hands of one group of people. It emphasizes that this has buttressed power in this group for generation after generation, which essentially throws into question claims of merit that this group has attempted. It shows how the myth of race allows the often unconscious belief of superiority which creates--and becomes--the internalized dominance of this group, thereby rendering the blindness which perpetuates the myth of meritocracy. Importantly, it asks what may happen to the oppressor who believes--whether conciously or not--this superiority exists: her chapter about lynching focuses on the oppressor as well as the victim. This integral part of this book asks one of the most important questions of all: what happens to the oppressor who is so disengaged from basic morality that watching a lynching becomes not only possible but also pleasurable (see the picture of the Reuben Stacy lynching which features a young girl watching with a smile on her face)? Battalora proposes not only that it is the responsibility of whites to negotiate their racism but also that, without this step, some basic moral foundation will be (if it hasn't been already) lost. Also important is the fact that it is relatively short, increasing the chances that a higher number of people will read it.

I think this book should be required reading for everyone in a position if leadership, whether in government, our school, our social service agencies, or our churches. Although the author’s style of writing is difficult to follow at times, the overall historical overview is clear and disturbing. If we are to understand the forces at work in our country today, we must understand the forces that shaped us.

I was compelled to read this book after the 2016 US elections, and after someone recommended it. This is the book and education we didn't get in school growing up, but should have. I found it to be very eye-opening. I thought I was relatively well- versed in understanding race relations in the US, but this peeled back a whole other layer that I never understood. ALL Americans should read this, regardless of race or ethnic background.

I really appreciated this book. I could never understand why human beings would ever react to one another in such a negative fashion. With other books I have read touching very lightly on the subject I had concluded that at some point for some reason a division was made. I had believed it to be most likely economics. This book gives a clear picture through enacted laws in the colonies and later the US and the reasons behind them. As a lover of history I know ancient writers many times were extremely vague about peoples appearance as it was generally irrelevant. Mentioning where a person was from was enough to get a picture of what they may look like but was merely put in as a part of the history and not indicative of any preconceived ideas about someone's character in most cases. ( enemies describe each other in a bad light since time immemorial). But I digress. Great book to help you to see people for what we are. All humans. I would have liked to have seen more on the deep social problems caused by the creation of races but a great book based on factual evidence none the less.

I was truly blown away by the deeply researched information that Jacqueline Battalora shared in her book, Birth of a White Nation.This is a book that you will not be able to put down and you will will be forever changed when you read it!Knowledge is truly power!

Dr. Battalora has managed to craft both a well researched and accessible volume on an important topic. This entry dispells many myths about the nature of the concept of race and demonstrates with strong evidence how the concept was not only socially constructed but employed as a tool of class control. An excellent read for those interested in understanding the modern issues surrounding race and racism in the United States.

This is not an easy read, but well worth the effort. The views are well-documented and the author takes great care to develop her opinions and back them with documented facts and history. None of the ideas are new ones, but I have never made the connection or been exposed to the linear progression made by Ms Battalora even though I have an advanced degree.0⃣9⃣

I bought this book after borrowing it from a friend because of the variety of projects and ideas for embellishments. I am a fairly experienced knitter and have felted other projects.What this book provides: a collection of creative patterns that makes use of recycled woolen clothing or machine-knitted swatches. The author says hand-knitted "fabric" can be used, but may prove disheartening to see how small it gets once felted. (I plan to handknit my stuff, anyway.)What this book does NOT provide: A detailed set of hand knitting instructions, like the number of skeins to buy, size of needle, how many stitches to cast on, how to make a stockinette stitch, how big a swatch to knit. Those details are left to the individual knitter.I do recommend the book, tempered with reservations about its audience.

A well done book complete with time, patterns, supplies and photos to complete a project out of recycled sweaters.Author has produced a great book for those starting out in felting of old wool sweaters.Some items are cute as a bug in a rug... whatever that is LOL... but just as cute as can be.One thing...you have to like to embroider as there is quite a bit of that. As for myself I will modify and do needle felting instead of the embroidery. Well at least not as much as the author as I want the project to take less time than the amount put into the embroidery.As an artist who sells her work time is important. I can not spend 5 hours on one item no matter how cute it is unless it is an item for a friend etc. but not for selling.The photos, patterns, time and supplies needed is great.

This is not an ordinary felting book. It does have projects that can be done by a beginner, but mostly offers projects and ideas for intermediate/advanced crafters. Owning an embroidery machine is also an advantage for many of the projects. I really like this book, it offered ideas to do things with felt that I hadn't tried or even thought of trying. If you've worked with felted wool already, this is a great book.

I love this book! The patterns are exactly what I was looking for!

I needed some ideas and help making mittens and shoes from felt. This little book had it all. I haven't been able to duplicate the machine embroidery the author uses to add pizzaz to her creations but I am trying. Practice makes perfect.

I was a frequent traveler to Memphis, mostly for business, but was able to sneak in some sightseeing now and then. I've been wanting to go back, and this book has lit the fire once again.What a great find. I thought seeing Graceland and Beale street were it, but I'm sadly mistaken. I especially like the tips thrown throughout the book.I can't wait to go back now!

This book was not worth the money I spent. The idea of the book was good but the content was disappointing. I would not recommend this book.

I have lived in Memphis for a very long time and this book motivated me get off my butt and become better acquainted with my city! It is a sad realization that there are a number of non-mainstream jewels for which I had no idea. Often, the only things you hear about Memphis are negative. Samantha Crespo does an excellent job in shining a light on the positive!

I bought this kit because I enjoy thinking about how I can improve the design of my home and I love this company's other two products,the Home Quick Planner and 3-D Home Kit. It's excellent that all three products work together for a complete architectural experience--drawing, floor plan design and furniture layout, and three-dimensional model building. I initially saw these products on HGTV. My wife and kids also like these products, so I bought two of each!The Architect's Drawing Kit teaches the basics of how to make perspective drawings of real or dream decorating, remodeling and building projects. It's a must have for students interested in STEM, architecture, design, engineering, or art. It's also good for just having fun with coloring--a very popular activity these days--so it makes an excellent gift as well.

I really thought this book was going to show HOW to do a design, but it doesn’t. It is simply a book full of graph paper with design ideas you can trace. I’m assuming it would be a great product for someone who already knows how to draw designs and just needs to practice
