I love this book, series and author. This was a great book and I had a hard time getting to sleep because I could not quit reading. I highly recommend this book, series and author.

A young girl from New York City meets bounty hunter. Sparks fly, an angel appears, another fun visit to Creede!!

When I see Kit Morgan's name on a book cover I have certain expectations and this book delivered those. Of course I expect a romance, a beautiful woman, a handsome gallant man and humor, all told with a story line with a twist. If you are a fan of the Cowboys and Angels series Atticus will be an old friend, Persephone is the new face. I totally enjoyed this story and am sorry it appears they will be leaving Creede.

All of Kit Morgan’s books are a joy to spend time in with little nuggets of wisdom that fill your pockets along the way. Enjoy 💜

Persephone travels to Creede with her father to help her cousin Hattie White for the rest of her pregnancy and birth of her first child. Atticus comes to apologize to Cooper and Hattie about his part in a crazed man's bid to get Hattie to marry him by any means-- including setting fire to a house with Cooper in it. After realizing Hattie didn't want to go, he helped them, and the man was now in prison. But Atticus still needed to apologize. And he met Persephone. At first afraid of him, she quickly got over it, becoming interested. Her father, seeing the attraction, throws the names of horrid suitors at her, stating she MUST have a society marriage, and soon. Atticus and Persephone fall in love anyway, until her father's interfering has Atticus leaving town. For good. Persephone's angel has her work cut out for her now.

This story is the best of two worlds, Cutters Creek meets Creede! I loved it! This is one of my favorite series.

Thank you, Kit Morgan. This book is great, sweet, and lots of fun. Atticus and Persephone were perfect, and I loved hearing about Cutter's Creek. Always.

I bought this book as part of a wedding shower gift and the recipes look delicious! It does a good job of showing breakfast, lunch, dinner and even dessert recipes to use with your waffle maker. Many of them are not really in my wheelhouse as far as food preferences go, but I can appreciate the creativity behind them. And there are many in there that I would love to try. Great book if you are thinking... 'what else can I do with my waffle iron?".... or a great compliment to a waffle iron given as a gift.

At first I thought this book was just about giving me permission. Permission to be silly: waffled mac and cheese. Permission to broil and grill at the same time: waffled sausages, steaks. Permission to do things I really should have thought of doing myself: bacon in the waffle iron. Then I tried the waffled felafel. I love felafel, and I know I can technically make it at home, but, honestly, how often am I going to put a vat on to deep fry it? In mid-August? It took one try for the waffled felafel to get inscribed in the regular rotation: delicious, crispy, ridiculously easy, and it barely changed the temperature of the kitchen. Plus I get a chance to say "fawaffle." This is not giving me permission. It is giving me dinner.

Not just recipes: Daniel Shumski's humble and amusing journey through waffle-land actually makes for a fun little read, so be sure not to skip right from the titles to the ingredients lists and directions.About those recipes, though... While I'll probably never scramble eggs in my waffle iron, I came away with a number of great recipes (you MUST try the brioche - it's SO easy and a delicious component of several items) and inspiration. There's even a section with tips and advice on how to get your own recipes going - what generally works, what doesn't. You can follow Shumski's recipes, or take them to a whole other level. For example, Shumski's idea to make a grilled cheese sandwich in the waffle iron is sheer brilliance by itself, but particularly so if you like to layer it with bacon or tomato. For those of you who do, you know the anguish of trying to flip a loaded sandwich once it's been grilled to perfection on the first side, only to have it all come apart mid flip. In your waffle iron, of course, there's no flipping involved. Problem solved. Bonus: Your sandwiches cook in half the time since both sides cook at once. Double bonus: If you're using a Belgian waffle maker, your sandwich (if you center it, albeit against Shumski's advice - he suggests placing it as far away from the hinge as possible so as to get better leverage for closing it in, but my waffle iron, the Oster CKSTWFBF21, closes very nicely with the sandwich in the middle) will be cut into four sections, perfect for sharing right out of the waffle iron.Sandwiches, of course, are only a small part of Will it Waffle? Shumski will have you preparing any number of dishes, from desserts to main courses (think ravioli, macaroni and cheese, stuffed chicken breasts, tamale pie - SO yummy!), all in half the time it takes to cook the same dishes in a pan or in the oven (hint: chocolate chip cookies). I've tried about ten recipes so far and, although there are probably many I'll never get to, I've already discovered several that have quickly become staples at my house. I hate to name drop, but the chocolate-stuffed French toast is insane. My whole family is in on this, too, as Shumski's book is perfect for seasoned and aspiring waffle iron chefs alike. My kids, including my 14 year-old son, have been having a great time in the kitchen with Will it Waffle? and our new waffle iron. Triple bonus!

Anyone that makes waffles needs this book. My favorite recipe is the overnight yeast risen waffles, it's really brill! As one would suppose, yeast is used to create this master piece. I'd like top mention that the author said he found more than one person that tried this recipe, didn't like the results. My conclusion is the users used an inferior type/brand of yeast, and on that note, the yeast I used was purchased from KAF (King Arthur Flour)...it's their instant yeast. I'm not sure of the brand other than it's the only yeast they offer, and I've purchased it several times from them. On that note, yeast is best kept in the freezer, in fact, the yeast I am using had a best by date on it that expired 4 years ago, but keeping it in the freezer, the yeast will keep indefinitelyAnyways, buy Daniel's book, there are other good recipes in it but I'm stuck in a rut and make mostly the overnight yeast risen waffles. I should mention I've tried over a dozen of his recipes so far and all of them have turned out good, so this book is no one hit wonder, there are plenty of good recipes for you to try. It's also written expertly IMO, expertly in that it is easy to read and comprehend. Seriously, you need to buy this recipe book if you love to make and eat wafflesIf you're looking for a good waffle maker to buy, this https://www.amazon.com/Oster-CKSTWF2000-Belgian-Waffle-Stainless/dp/B00A1MEP6M/ref=sr_1_3?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1514525948&sr=1-3&keywords=waffle+maker is the waffle maker I purchased recently and I highly recommend it. It's economical and makes waffles easily, that wont stick to the griddles. I will spray a cooking oil on it periodically and never have experienced sticking wafflesIn the past I have thought of buying an expensive heavy grid waffle maker yet the one I mention above, is all I need and therefore, I have no desire to upgrade, it's just not necessary

Fun, and well-thought-out recipes. No processed ingredients, which was a pleasant surprise. Rosemary potatoes are amazing. Fawaffle has changed my life--better than anything I can get in Vermont, and without deep-fat frying. A number of the recipes would be just as good without resorting to a waffle iron, but are certainly not bad in this format--just a bit more work. Muffles, chocolate oat cookies...

I haven't tried a lot of the recipes but haven't been blown away yet. We tried the meatballs - Don't put ground beef in your waffle maker. This book tells you it's a good idea. It's not. Cleaning it was the worst.

From the Back Cover

An unforgettable, illuminating story of how men live and how they survive, from the acclaimed New York Times bestselling author of Cutting for StoneWhen Abraham Verghese, a physician whose marriage is unraveling, relocates to El Paso, Texas, he hopes to make a fresh start as a staff member at the county hospital. There he meets David Smith, a medical student recovering from drug addiction, and the two men begin a tennis ritual that allows them to shed their inhibitions and find security in the sport they love and with each other. This friendship between doctor and intern grows increasingly rich and complex, more intimate than two men usually allow. Just when it seems nothing can go wrong, the dark beast from David’s past emerges once again—and almost everything Verghese has come to trust and believe in is threatened as David spirals out of control.

I’ve read both of Abraham Verghese’s other works: Cutting for Stone and My Own Country: A Doctor's Story. I’ve given both my special “6-star” rating for superlative works. Could he do it a third time, and in an area that is my adopted home, the deserts of the American Southwest? I decided not to ponder the question long, for there was an additional special pull: the compelling weekly tennis game.Verghese provides loving descriptions of the diverse places he has inhabited on this good earth, from the eucalyptus trees perfuming the high African city of Addis Abba, to the lush green wooded hills and dales of eastern Tennessee that he has declared to be his home, but one that he would depart for professional reasons, to settle for a piece in El Paso, Texas, and find a lovely tennis court, high on a hill, just north of the city, where he could look across the Rio Grande at night, and observe the twinkling lights of one of the most violent cities on earth, Juarez, Mexico.Verghese is a medical doctor, and his novels so accurately depict the medical field, to those who have partaken. He is a “lowly” internist, as he would wryly note in “My Own Country,” at least in terms of financial remuneration. Like Chekhov, and a few others, the internists are the observers, always noting skin hues, abnormalities, a slight puffiness here and there, even in their friends, socially. The good ones can also observe the heart and soul. In Verghese’s own words: “My Luddite streak was aroused. Would that I could wave a wand and bring back a simple pedal bike, bring back wooden rackets, bring back doctors who didn’t need batteries of blood test to diagnose conditions that were staring them in the face, bring back…”No need for a “spoiler alert.” The “medical outcome” is in the dedication: “In memory of David Smith, M.D, 1959-1994." Verghese and Smith balance their strengths and weaknesses. Verghese is now an accomplished doctor, based on his work in east Tennessee. Smith is the resident, still learning. Smith is also a very good tennis player, once out there on some loop of the semi-professionals. Verghese is aspiring, still learning. Smith accepts him on the Court, and Verghese accepts him on the medical rounds. Smith is Australian, and on a bit of a different career trajectory. And he has a “secret” that much of the hospital knows, and Verghese is late to discover: a history of opioid drug addiction. But all that is now safely in the past… or is it? As is well-known, on a percentage basis, those who work in the medical field are more likely to abuse drugs for two straightforward reasons: ease of access, and the pressure of always having to “get it right,” or, as the expression has it, you bury your mistakes. And it is the Emergency Room that is the worse place to work. Hum.This work touched me personally more than the other two. I once worked in a vast open-air Emergency Room for a year. A fellow medic was addicted to the morphine we carried, and would shoot up all of his, and anyone else’s he could grab. And if a soldier was wounded, he would use Thorazine instead. A shudder from those who know the real implications of that. And what do you do about it? What is fair and reasonable for him, as well as the men in his unit? Turning him in, and he gets a one-way ticket to LBJ (Long Binh Jail), and the unit has no medic. Is an addicted medic better than none at all? It was a difficult call I did not have to make. But when Verghese wrote of his own rationalizations, the cover-ups, the “just one more chance…” I was right along, on edge the whole way.Far more pleasantly, there were my own tennis games, with a medical doctor, who was NOT an addict. Neither of us were anywhere near the tennis league of Smith, nor even Verghese. But it was a lot of fun. The ritual, the passion, the wonderful exhaustion experienced thereafter, when two players are so evenly matched in their ineptitude. Every Tuesday night, a weekly highlight. Certainly it would be uncharitable to bring up my partner's dyslexic line calls…And then there is the matter of my son’s long-term girlfriend, now finishing her third year of med school. We talk books over dinners, and this is the one she really wants to read. Bravo. But I really think it should be in the “core curriculum” of any medical school. As a final point, Verghese would do the same as he did in east Tennessee; he’d visit his patients outside the hospital setting, and in this case, it meant walking along the Rio Grande, looking in the bushes, for his partner who once was on the other side of the net. Empathy, and more than a bit of courage. I complete the three works with another 6-star determination, and realize that Abraham Verghese is the only author I have read who has received that determination for every work. May there be a fourth.

I had loved Verghese's "Cutting for Stone", so could hardly wait to read "The Tennis Partner". I came away disgusted with Dr. Verghese's complete lack of awareness of what was happening to his friend, David. How could a physician NOT recognize that David had a serious underlying disease?? The concept of "dual diagnosis" was well-known by the late 1980's. David died in 1994. How could Verghese not see that his friend clearly had Bipolar Disorder?? (The old term was Manic Depressive Disorder.) David was treated for his addiction, but until the illness that was DRIVING his condition was addressed and treated, there was no way he could stop using drugs. He was self-medicating. How could that not have been obvious to EVERYONE who treated this poor, sick young man? Also, I couldn't help wondering why on earth Verghese didn't suggest to David that he simply do research work, rather than the most grueling of all experiences: an Internship? Given David's multiple relapses, wasn't it obvious that the tremendous stress of an Internship was liable to drive him over the edge? And pushing him to be in touch with his emotionally abusive parents? Why?? I think Verghese thought only about how HE would behave in a similar situation, and gave no thought to why David reacted as he did. The final thing that made me throw down the book in disgust was when Verghese went on about how angry HE was about David's suicide. Hello: David wasn't "thinking" when he killed himself. People who commit suicide aren't doing it to hurt other people. They commit suicide because the pain they are experiencing is completely unbearable. I've always explained to family members of people who commit suicide: it is like an animal in a trap. The animal can stay in the trap and die, or the animal can chew off its leg and die. Your family member chose to chew off his/her leg. (Also, recent research has shown that the pain center in the brain is the SAME for physical AND psychological pain.) Dr. Verghese didn't do his homework, while David was alive, nor after David tragically died. I hope he has learned something since then.

With his skill at expressing vulnerabilities, fears, and the whole spectrum of emotions, Verghese certainly has captured the addict's mind and underlying foundations of his addiction. This was a hard one for me to get through due to my addictive past. I could feel the past shame arise within me as Verghese renders his subjects apart, exposes his own naivete, and touches the heart of the matter and me as the reader.Every doctor should be reading this book. When I worked at the teaching hospital in Richmond, the doctors would treat the addicted patients like dirt, some of them lecturing them about a subject that they had no clue about, and others just shunning them as much as they could. Verghese has done his homework, and once again expresses superbly the role of a "healer", the role of a physician, and lucky the medical student who has him as his/her teacher/mentor.

Cutting for Stone is one of my favorite books and I've been meaning to read The Tennis Partner ever since. I bought it before a recent trip to Maui and read it in 3 days. It was a heartbreaking read, but a story that is so important. This is a book about friendship, tennis, medicine, addiction, love, heartbreak and so much more. I'd highly recommend this book.

This is not an advanced book. The projects are a bit repetitive. The techniques are basic. The demo pieces are far from flawless. All that being said, for the price, this can give you a good insight into how complex, beautiful pieces can be made from basic forms. The only thing I suggest is that you look elsewhere for a better explanation of how to make your own filigree wire - the included method stops short by not having you go through 2-3 annealing/twisting rounds. Any less and the wire is loose and open.

This book is just wonderful. I own many books on jewelry making, especially for metalsmithing and precious metal clay. My son and I both make jewelry, and we were looking for a book to further our wire knowledge. This book more than fulfilled our need.It will satisfy any wire folks out there, whether you do wire wrapping, sculpture, or like me, mostly use wire as a component in larger pieces. Filigree work is different enough from regular wire work to warrant a separate book. Unlike other wire, filigree pieces usually require soldering. (Never fear, it is beginner level soldering, and she tells you how!) Also, the wire used is completely different. Fortunately, Jeanne teaches you to make your own, if you wish. Or, you can buy nice quality filigree wire from Rio Grande's website. The book begins with the basics - the history of filigree, the tools you will need, and basic skills. Then it has numerous projects, which progress in difficulty through the book. The basic projects are easy enough for a true beginner, but attractive enough to appeal to advanced wire artists. Some of the simpler projects could also be used as components in more advanced creations. It amazed me how, once I got the basics down, I was making really gorgeous jewelry that looked much more difficult and time-consuming than it really was! My friends are amazed.Aside from having such great information, the book is very well-written. The step by step directions are easy to understand, so you always know what to do next. And there are lots of colorful pictures, which help you know if you're doing the next step right. You can tell the author really thought about how to make the information accessible to us.If you're a first-timer, don't worry - by the end of the book you'll feel like a real artist! If you're an intermediate wire wrapper, you'll be pleased at how useful your skills are in this medium, but you'll still be learning something new! And for the advanced person - you will learn enough new patterns and techniques to find this book truly rewarding. We've really enjoyed what we've learned so far, and I can't wait to do some more of the projects in here. This book is well worth buying, and its a deal on Amazon. Go ahead and get it - you won't regret it. And you'll get to amaze your friends with all of your beautiful new jewelry! (Or surprise them with a gorgeous gift!)

I have been designing jewelry for 12 years. I am constantly in search of something new to try. While I was doing research on Plique jewelry, I ran across this book, just as it was being released! The filigree wire used for these tutorials is only available from one source that I know of in the US, but Jeanne graciously shares the source and the product number for ordering this Sterling Silver filigree wire! Within hours of reading the book, I was happily sketching, soldering, and polishing some very pretty jewels! I learned a lot about handling Silver and Jeanne is very thorough, staging the tutorial projects from simpler ones and then graduating to more complex projects. I treasure the book. It has added a beautiful new dimension to my repertoires of expression. In a contemporary world that is sadly losing crafts of special and beautiful distinction to the past, Jeanne breathes new life into a very special style of jewelry making that has an emphasis on craft. If you have never soldered Silver, listen up. Trust Jeanne. If you just plunge right in there and follow her tutorials you will jump hurdles in learning to solder Silver and also to draft your own special designs with very little effort. In a few short hours you will be looking at your work and thinking, "Wow! I did this!" If I can do it, you can do it! Thank you Jeanne for so generously sharing your talent and skill!

I am a very experienced metal smith and love to purchase books like this to inspire my creativity. This book is full of great pictures of many different pieces in many different styles, which gives you a great understanding of the versatility of this type of jewelry. As far as functionality, this book has many patterns and pretty detailed explanations on how to recreate the looks which is missing on many "how to" jewelry books. She even goes into the basics of jewelry forming and tools. However, I am do a lot of soldering work in my pieces and her explanation of how to solder is VERY basic. I would hesitate to begin any of these projects if you have not soldered before. As an experienced metal smith, I know that it is very easy to melt such fine wire with too much heat and the simple explanation on soldering is not enough for a true beginner. My advice would be to purchase a jewelry basics book with a more detailed explanation on soldering, practice on some other pieces, and then and only then, would I suggest doing the fine wire work in this book.Overall, a great book that will inspire you to fine tune your jewelry skills and add those details to your pieces that make a difference between nice jewelry and very fine art work.

Having seen this author's jewelry and her projects featured in magazines, I couldn't wait to get her book. I'm pleased to say that I wasn't disappointed. While not for the beginner, it's an excellent reference for someone who's somewhat familiar with jewelry making, yet just starting with solder work.Ms Rhodes-Moen opens the book by giving a brief history of filigree jewelry and showing a variety of it's styles. She goes on to offer information on suggested supplies and equipment, and how to use them. The following projects are lovely and her step-by-step instruction is detailed and easy to follow. You are even told how to correct pieces that don't turn out quite right. The book ends with samples of her own work and by giving insight into how to move on to designing your own pieces. This is a must for your jewelry making library.
