I know everyone's reviews are primarily concerned with the quality of the book, but my primary problem with this book is its translation. I understand translating something this metaphysical into another language is hard, but there are so many part so this book that are grammatically erroneous. it became extremely difficult for me to understand certain parts because the translated sentences are chaotic with incoherent subjects and other problems.

This book is amazing! Be warned it is highly complex and the author likes to use difficult style and vocabulary. Nonetheless, I have truly enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it.

Bataille is severely not known for his work (maybe well-known in the philosophy world.) The emotional connection between death and sex is explored here as well as the political philosopher the Marquis de Sade, although in a more academic fashion.

I can say with certainty that this was a life changing book for me. I've started reading it for a second time as I'm sure there's a lot that I've missed. I can see how many readers would be repelled by Bataille's deconstruction of the themes alluded to in the title of this work. The subject matter in itself is brutally real. Some sentences jump out at me with absolute clarity; others remain murky and mysterious, refusing to give up their secrets -- Even after a second reading. Contradictions exist within the space of a sentence in this book. Bataille breaks down concepts that are at once elemental yet complex -- For example, "continuity" versus "discontinuity". This is an oversimplification, but in essence, Bataille examines the overlap between life and death; between existence and non-existence; and the role eroticism plays within that arena.Bataille has been referred to as the "metaphysician of evil" -- A moniker that I find to be sensational. According to Bataille, eroticism moves man towards death; or alternatively, man moves towards death in pursuing the erotic, which he cannot help but doing, since eroticism is intrinsic to his very nature. Work acts as a barrier against the potentially malign influence of decadent eroticism. Although sex and sexuality in themselves are amoral -- Bataille makes use of a moral perspective in his study of the connection between eroticism and death. Human sacrifice (and its evolution into pastel Christianity / puritanical monotheism) and the writings of Marquis DeSade appear as two memorable themes in this work; the chapter on DeSade is compelling.While reading "Erotism" I asked myself the question: "Must I now view life through Bataille's dark prism?" And the answer was unequivocally: "Yes". On a technical note, I find the translation to be problematic. Typos abound and while many of them are innocuous -- There are instances where both the typos and the mistranslations possibly contribute to misinterpretation of specific shades of meaning.Stephen C. Perfect Series For Beginner looking forward to learn Japanese well, and for serious learners who aren't afraid of taking a few challenges. I highly recommend Genki or Minna No Nihongo Elementary Book series for those people who are at Elementary Level or Upper Beginners. And, Japanese from Zero to those people who are absolute Beginners. There is a reason why Genki is among the best sellers here, and i love it a lot, thanks God that i finally got it because It isn't easy for people in our country to get this book series from the local stores.

Best purchase ever for learning Japanese! I love the audio addition. It helps to make sure I am pronouncing words correctly. Very much a good book for those who are for at self studying. I like to make flashcards of the vocabulary. Plus the sticky labels that came with this set are going to be very useful.Love learning the rules of the grammar. It makes understanding how to structure the sentence and pronounce words easier, and not dependent on memorization only.

Books are great! Sticky note booklet didn't arrive. I inquired and was told they were not included in bundle to begin with (strange, because order lists them and they are in the photo of product)

Exactly what I ordered and expected. Everything came in one nice bundle and I couldn't be happier to finally have my hands on the Genki 1 and Genki 2 books for study. The post-it booklet was a nice touch.

I love the accompanying audio discs. The pronunciation is so clear and they pause enough for you to repeat or get your bearings. I thought there were only going to be two, one for each textbook. There’s actually four, one for each book! I am a little disappointed that, as far as I’ve seen (I only got them today), there’s no writing help or anything to teach you the stroke order. I guess it’s just trial and error. Also, the furigana (the little hiragana showing how the kanji is said) is a great addition.All in all, a great resource for learning Japanese and I can’t wait to use it more!

The stories are short and sweet. They seem to be realistic for the time Period and I enjoyed them. T hh ey are gre as t for bedtime as they are not so long.

Things there aren't quite as they seem, however.I received an advance copy in exchange for my honest review, and I'm thrilled to be able to leave a full 5 stars on this series!

I loved this series because it showed the strength as well as the tenderness of the women who defied tradition of the times and stood up to the horrors of war. Yet later were tender enough to go out and find romance. These books do a great job with entertaining, captivating stories of showing both sides of a woman. it was great reading them as single books when they came out but so much better reading them together in one set although each book is a completely stand alone story. I received this ARC set for review consideration. This is my honest review.

I enjoyed reading these stories. I like that they are in a box set that can be read one after the other without waiting for the next book. I have read other books by this author and I am looking forward to reading more. I received this ARC for review consideration.

This book is for people over 50 who 1) are athletic cyclists who crossed the age of 50; 2) have been athletic cyclists in their youth and, being over 50, want to take up again; or 3) are new to the bicycle world being over 50 and want to start cycling competition, races and endurance rides. Getting this book will reap a lot of rewards and be an always necessary reference work to look at. It is comprehensive, well written, and very informative. It explains what changes happen to your body after 50, and how to deal with those changes in order to continue on high performance and endurance rides.However, the commuter / leisure / weekend rider over 50 who wants to get some workout benefit from his or her routinely rides in order to stay healthy and fit, might find some gems hidden under the technical sports medical information and training schedule plans... but doesn't necessarily have to get this book. There are many other practical guides for commuters and city riders available out there (like i.e. "Just Ride" from Grant Petersen)

Finally I have a rational guide to training for older riders! At 67 I had spent the winter riding a bit and then had to ramp up my training prior to a Gran Fondo in my home town. I had registered for this event and had an interest in completing my training for the event. I thought I would die! Week after week I was doubling my miles and knew this was not good. I needed some guidance in establishing a more rational plan for training.Through this book, I have come to further understand VO2 capacity. Years ago I was monitoring my pulse to insure that I was meeting the 75% goal I learned about from Kenneth Cooper while becoming a runner. It was interesting that I never came to understand that there is a wide world above the 75% threshold.Starting slowly, and within a week of getting the book, I bought a watch with heart monitoring capabilities. Now just monitoring my work load I am able to adjust my effort in real time (no pun) by simply glancing at the watch. Based on my age, my VO2 max is 152 BPM. I was delighted on one ride when my Maximum output was 174 BPM, and that I did not collapse! Proof positive, to me that there is much I have to learn about establishing a more accurate picture of what my actual capacity for exercise is and to monitor this periodically.I am so reassured that my performance can be improved by following the principles in Mr. Friel's book, I just purchased a new bike to use exclusively in my training.If you have wondered when the joy of cycling will end read this book!

It is often said that there are two types of cyclists: those who have not crashed and those who have. I would add to this cycling wisdom there are those who are over fifty and those who are not. This is a pretty good book if you are an over fifty cyclist who is relatively new to cycling. It is well written and to the point. The training suggestions are well grounded and clearly thought out for the benefit of the over fifty cycling group. If you are over fifty and cycling, I am happy to suggest this book. If you are a younger cyclist, I suggest the Joel Friel's other book, The Cyclists Bible. One of the knocks on this book is that it is a watered down version of The Cyclists Bible for the over fifty set. I don't think so. The Cyclists Bible, which I also have, is focused for a different athletic group of cyclists and the content clearly reflects that. Cycling Past 50 is equally focused but for older cyclists. Friel's thesis that older cyclists should train differently is spot on, I think. This book will be helpful for those who are cycling past fifty and need good advice in order to reach their cycling goals, and/or to enjoy cycling all the more, which is why I bought this book-for the love of cycling. I really hate going to health clubs where I live, but often you have to lock me away from my bike to stop me from spinning off into the countryside. I cycle for the love of cycling. Cycling is not something I have to make myself do. On the contrary, I have to make myself not to overdo it, which this book is very helpful at helping me to do. Good cycling to all of you.

This is an excellent book about cycling. Note I didn't say anything about cycling over 50 although I bought it because I started cycling and I'm over 50. So I found myself in a quandry: how can I recommend this to my young cycling friends? They won't want to read this as it's not meant for them. As I was reading I recognized that this had to come from a regular cycling book and to write a new book, the author had just added about 15 pages with mention of being older. Sure enough, Friel is the author of The Cyclist's Training Bible. I haven't read that book but assuming it is similar as the featured reviewer said, it will be a great book also.Look, once you've read one of these training books they all start to sound similar. The advantage of this book is that it simplistically states its case in a manner where the lightbulb goes off in your head. For example, when he talks about climbing he gives statistics about pro cyclists: the best pro climbers have a weight (in lbs.) to height (in inches) of 2-1 or, a 72 inch cyclists (6 feet) would be 144 pounds. 2.2 and 2.3 are exceptional ratios. And then the point: no pro cyclist has had a ratio of 2.5 to 1. Do your analysis and see your ratio. It will tell you that most body types are going to be elite cyclists. Simplistic but really important info.I strongly recommend this book for older cyclists and younger cyclists also for the book layout, simplicity and quickness of read.

It gives information regarding al processes both physiological and pathological when interpreting data to every measure or parameter involving laboratory techniques. Highly Recommended.

Combining the clin path and lab techniques makes sense and provides a symbiotic relationship. The chapters are organized well and consist of learning objectives and key terms in the beginning, followed by case examples and some introductory paragraphs. The rest of the chapter is then in an outline form that is thorough and easy to follow. Highlighted boxes noted as “technician tips” provide important information through a Pearls of Practice format. Full color photos with information also provide another level of comprehension.What makes this book stand out from the others is the case studies, complete with interpretation and comments to ensure that the technician understands what is happening.Some chapters have multiple choice questions at the very end to further cement the objectives and make the technician think critically. Answers to the quiz and further questions can be found at [...].Accurate results can only be gotten if the sample is prepared correctly; Chapter One – Getting Started covers proper ways to obtain and package blood, urine, and feces. Basic use of a centrifuge, microscope, stains, and blood tubes are also disussed, along with a section on laboratory safety.Chapter Four – Clinical Chemistry explains how to prepare a sample for chemisty analysis, what normal and abnormal values are, and what the clinical significance is for those abnormal results. Chapter Five – Urinalysis does the same as Chapter Four but with urine.The reason I mention both of those chapters is that I believe this will be an invaluable resource to any technician; because knowing the “why” is just as important as knowing the “how to”. The information is presented clearly and concisely, and technicians can refer to the chapters again and again to reinforce their knowledge.Chapter Seven – Minimizing Laboratory Errors is the final, very important chapter. Errors in research are inevitable, but knowing how to properly plan and be aware of how they happened is an invaluable skill. QC and QA procedures are discussed, as well as the various types of errors.Further reading sources are cited at the end of each chapter, and there is a glossary at the back of the book.This first edition will be welcomed by those looking for a fresh aspect on clinical pathology.
